CNC retrofit

A press brake frame lasts for decades; its electronics, ten to fifteen years. We renew the CNC, drives and safety systems, on other manufacturers’ machines too.

01 — What we replace

Keep the steel, renew the electronics.

One coherent package, not scattered parts: a new CNC on old drives makes an unstable system.

01

CNC

ESA S875W or S875W AI: touchscreen, DXF/STEP import, 3D bend simulation, digital tool library.

02

Drives and encoders

Servo drives, encoders on every axis, an electrical cabinet with safety PLC and valve monitoring.

03

Laser safety

Lazer Safe Sentinel or Sentinel Plus on the upper beam: Category 4, SIL 3, EN 12622.

04

More axes

A sound but under-equipped machine can go from 2 to 4-6 controlled axes.

02 — When it pays off

A retrofit pays off if the frame is sound.

We check before we propose it: no new electronics will pay off on a compromised structure.

It pays off

  • Hydraulic press brake from the 1980s to 2000s, structurally sound, with an unsupported CNC.
  • Safety systems that need upgrading anyway: doing them with the CNC costs less than two separate jobs.
  • A sound machine whose entry-level CNC holds production back.

It doesn’t

  • Compromised structure: cracks in the upper beam or side frames, a deformed bed, cylinders beyond regrinding.
  • You need technology a retrofit cannot add, such as electric drive kinematics or native robotic cells.

In these cases we look at a refurbished or new machine with you. A retrofit does not make the machine new: check any incentive separately with your adviser.

How we work

  1. 1

    Free site survey.

  2. 2

Structural assessment: magnetic particle testing of the upper beam and side frames, bed flatness, axis play, cylinders and pump.

  3. 3

    Written technical quotation.

  4. 4

Removal of the old CNC and obsolete safety systems; installation of the new package.

  5. 5

    Hydraulic and electrical acceptance tests.

  6. 6

New declaration of conformity (EN 12622 and Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC; from 20 January 2027, Regulation (EU) 2023/1230) and renewed CE marking.

  7. 7

Operator training and a 12-24 month warranty on the work.
